Theme Update … err mess up

You might be wondering why My Time Matters Blog looks out of “shape”, well the plan was to update the backend framework with better SEO optimization and a clean theme. Long story short, that’s exactly what is going on.

Genesis Framework is considered to be the best when it comes to SEO optimization and StudioPress Themes get the job done. They are nice, clean, easy and secure … which is what everyone really wants when they are creating a site/blog via WordPress.

My issue isn’t with the themes or the framework; in fact all my sites are going to run on Genesis Framework because it’s simple and user friendly, plus their customer support is outstanding. The reason this site isn’t looking to its potential is because my previous SEO was set through Headspace 2 and I personally prefer it more than All in One SEO pack. Both, Headspace 2 and All In One SEO Pack are free although there is a lot of controversy that goes on to determine which is the better one. I have personally ran both for over 5 months and have come to the conclusion that Headspace 2 is better of the two. Why? Because it’s simple … and its global settings take the cake.

Moving back to the subject. When switching to the Genesis Framework from Headspace2, rather than re-editing and re-updating all the SEO settings (which could take years based on how big your site is) Genesis came out with the SEO Data Transporter plugin which is suppose to transfer all the SEO settings from one to the other with ease of a button.

As the plugin analyzed everything successfully, I installed the genesis framework and went to transfer the SEO data … what happens next? Nothing, nothing gets transferred … nothing F@(&*ING happens! I get some sort of error, re-install the plugin, go through the process… and my SEO data has been lost. There are over 330 articles on My Time Matters Blog, so guess what I’ll be doing for the next few weeks.

It was some sort of glitch, the plugin itself worked without any issues before. Now you know why I am not really focusing on the theme as I want to keep my page rank and search placement.

Let me know what you think, or any cool plugins that I should add as I am building this up.

  1. Well, as long as the content is good in this blog, i really do not care for the framework, or theme even if it breaks. Good going mytimematters..

  2. Sometimes those headaches can be rather awful. Right now I'm using Thesis with All in One. Seems to be a good combo for me. It works, I rank, I'm happy.

  3. Hi Vitaly,
I can totally relate, I lost Bloggers Market the first of the year when transferring from church to gensis / church. Everything went fine, up until I attempted to move the posts and the comments. No Go! Took me five months to move all the posts and comments. I thought I had covered my bases. I not only backed-up the database 3 times, but exported each and every database table as well ….. Man, something popped!!!

    • Hey Jeffrey,

Dang!! that sounds exhausting … I'm glad everything went through OK, if you consider 5 months to be Ok hah. I'm half way there with all the SEO transfers myself. But I checked out your site and it looks nice, well incorporated theme; glad everything is working great! Hope to see you around this neck of the woods more.
